Born
the second of three sons, I was raised in one of the many suburbs of Los
Angeles, California...
I
was educated through the Arcadia School District, where I went to the following academic institutions: Baldwin Stocker Elementary School,
Hugo Reid Elementary School, Foothills Jr. High School, and Arcadia High
School...

During
this time, my family and I lived in West Arcadia and North Arcadia, where my parents still reside...
Although
Arcadia is now home to many Asians, and particularly, the Chinese, while I
was growing up, there was not as many Asians around. Almost all of
my close childhood friends were Caucasians, and
it was not until later in my life did I socialize more with people with
similar Asian upbringings. This mixture of cultures has provided,
first and foremost, a great set of lifelong friends which I am fortunate
to have. In addition, I have gained experience that has afforded me
with a certain comfortableness around those with different backgrounds...

After
high school, I decided to stay local by selecting the University of
Southern California for my undergraduate studies, with no regrets.
Here, I decided to concentrate on entrepreneurial
studies within the Marshall School of Business...
On
a side note, throughout college, I worked on various part-time jobs including pizza
delivery, horse camp maintenance, downtown courier services, UPS loading,
and hotel customer services...
|
After
graduation, I still had not discovered the "ideal" career track
to pursue. However, still needing to make a living, I decided to take a
position at T. Rowe Price, an investment services firm that had an office in
downtown Los Angeles. I worked there for 9 months with marginal job
satisfaction due to the limited opportunities for personal and
professional growth in the small satellite branch...

From
there, I accepted a job offer from AIDS Project Los Angeles working within the
agency's finance division. This position offered me a great learning
environment in which I was given major financial responsibility over 25%
of the agency's annual budget...
Unfortunately,
after two years, the agency began to feel the pressures and limitations of
being a non-profit organization, and I found myself again at a point where
there was no longer room for personal and professional growth...
|
After spending three years working primarily with numbers, I
understood that a position embedded in the field of finance was not going to be my future. Although
being comfortable with numbers, I felt that this field was not utilizing
enough of my soft skills. Therefore, I decided a career change was
in order...

And
what better way to facilitate a career change then with an MBA degree...
So,
I enrolled at the University of Rochester William E. Simon Graduate School
of Business Administration's MBA program for the Fall 1999 quarter,
where my experiences have been very positive up to this point...
|
After
my first year at the Simon School, I accepted a summer internship position
(which turned into a part-time position, and then a full-time offer) at Bausch & Lomb, Inc. in Rochester, NY where I worked within the
Online Strategy division. There was not a better internship experience
that
I could have had...
